1st Day guide
|
Introduction
This is a simple guide to Torn City for players who are less than ten days old, but may be useful for you older players as well. Firstly, welcome to Torn City. A place where random shootings and petty theft are common place. The game runs in real time, every so often you will be given energy and nerve, with which you can use to train, attack and commit crimes. People who donate, called "Donators", get 5 energy every 10 minutes, everyone else gets 5 energy every 15 minutes. You also get a 5 happiness every 15 minutes, but this is less important at the start.
You will notice in the menu, under your name, there is a cash count and your level. Your level is determined by how experienced you are at the game, you get experience for pretty much everything you do. There is no way of viewing your experience, unless you travel to China and speak to the fortune teller. Unfortunately, those seeking the answer to this sacred question must be over level 15, and pay $75,000.
Training
One of the important things you will want to do is train up. You start with 10 in each of your battle stats: Strength, Speed, Dexterity and Defence. The way you train is up to you, most people train lots of speed, some strength and dexterity, and a little defence. To train, you will need a membership to a gym, so go to the newspaper and click 'local gyms'. At first you can only buy the $100 membership to "Woody's Work Out Club". Do this, go to the gym and click the links as you wish, it will cost 5 energy each time you train something, the amount you gain is random, but also depends on happiness. Don't use all of your energy at once though: you might want some to start an education course.
Crimes
After training, you will likely want to do some crimes. For the first ten days You will see a tick mark by the crimes you can easily do, and you will start off by 'searching for cash'. The crime you are able to do depends on the amount of crime experience you have. Crime experience is separate to your total experience, and can be lost as well as gained. Doing crimes will, however, add to your total experience. Each crime has 3 main outcomes: success, failure or jail.
Success is in green (you gain experience, and cash or an item), failure is in brown (you will neither gain or lose anything), and jail/hospital is in red.
If you end up in jail or hospital you will lose a certain % of your crime experience (part of your total experience). The bigger a crime, the more likely you are to end up in jail if you don't have enough crime experience, so if you do go to jail you may need to try smaller crimes again to build your experience back up.
Jobs
The other main stats you have, other than battle stats, are working stats. Working stats get you a better job, which means better pay and bigger bonuses from your job. You get working stats every day from your job, but you can also get an education. All the courses cost at least $500, and each gives a different benefit. Most people aim for a medical job as soon as they can, so saving up for a course that gives 300 intelligence is probably the quickest way of doing that. When you get your job, don't use your job points as you will need them to get promoted, and you only get a small number every day. The higher your level, the more job points you will receive.
Earning money from your job is a little slow. You get paid at 18:10 game time along with your working stat gains. If you want to try and start your education course ASAP, then try the casino. The odds are pretty good, but you can only play 75 times a day. Slots are best at first. It costs $5 per level per pull, if you line up two similar numbers you get twice that back, 3 numbers you get twenty five times that back. If you get lucky, you can easily make over $750.
If you look again at your menu bar you will see how many points you have. These are bonuses you can get, usually for doing reward schemes, or voting for the game at TWG (via the link in tc). Points let you do things later on in the game, you may want to use 20 to buy a stock ticker, but until you are level 10, there is not much else you can do with them apart from maybe sell them on the points market. Points will sell for a lot of money at the market, so if you vote, you can be off to a very good start.
Leveling
You will also see your level count. This wont go up unless you have enough experience to upgrade, and it will never go down. If you have enough experience for the next level, it will say [upgrade], as well as give you a reminder on the homepage. Leveling up gives you more hit points, and also lets you earn more job points every day. At level 10 you can use the loan shark and upgrade your gym membership, and at level 15 you gain access to El Cascado and other cities, where you can buy better weapons. It also lets you bet more at the casino, so if you are lucky, you will make much more money.
Factions
One other good idea is to join a faction. There are many factions in Torn City, but as a low level, you will not be able to get into many. Still, there are several factions dedicated to helping new players. You can go to the "Search Factions" link in the City, or look around the factions board in the forums. In a faction, you will usually get money and or good weapons to aid you.
A quick note on how to go about attacking: do not. Until you are level 6+, attacking probably is not worth it. Do not buy lots of weapons, save your cash for later on, when you can buy a decent weapon straight away. |
