Poker is a large number of card games you can find all over the world. Most commonly poker is about getting the best 5 cards and betting that your hand is better than your opponents. You will probably have seen 5 card stud in western films, and more recently No Limit Hold em poker in James Bond.

How to open poker

Torn city has its own Hold em poker tables found in the casino. When you click on poker you will get the option to open the poker window. The poker window automatically refreshes every 10 seconds.

Main window

The first menu in the poker window shows you links to open new tables, and all the existing tables you can join.
At the top are 'ring' tables where you can sit down with your stake, and bet on each hand as it comes, and walk away with whatever cash you gain/lose in your session.
Below this are the tournament tables - Where you buy in for the stake and the last player left with chips takes all the money at the table.

Creating a table

When creating a new table you will need to choose a name for it, the minimum bet (or total stake for tournament games), what type of betting you want, the minimum level a player needs to be to join your table, and if the table has a password.

Table layout

Once you have chosen a table to play at you will be shown the table with up to 8 players sat around it. In the middle are the community cards and the current pot total.
Around the table you can see who is sat down, how many chips they have, and whether or not they are still playing in the hand.
You can also see a 'D' chip indicating which player is the dealer. The player highlighted in red is the player currently making his choices.
At the top of the page is the status and chat box. When it is your turn your options will be shown above this box. There is also a refresh button for when you think the game is not updating quick enough.
At the bottom of the page you get the options to say something, to see the the vital details for the game, and a link to leave the tables.
When you first get to the table any spare seats will be showing a 'sit down' link. This link will let you choose how much cash you want to bring to the game. Once you have chosen you will be taken back to the table and the link will show your name and how much cash you have.

Betting

There are two types of betting - Limit, and No Limit. This relates to how the betting works. In Limit each bet must be made in terms of the Big Blind. If no one else has bet you can raise by one big blind. Players can then call or re-raise by another big blind until every player has put in the same number of chips, up to a maximum of 4 big blinds per betting round.
No Limit poker a player can bet or raise any amount bigger than the big blind, or the previous bet. So if a player bets $5000 the next can raise to $10000 total, or to any amount they like until they have all their chips in the pot.

Game styles

There are two types of game offered. The 'Ring' game is the easiest to understand. You sit down at the table bringing with you as much cash as you like, within the limits set by the host, and get dealt in the next hand. You stand to lose as much money as you put in to the pot in any one hand, but for that money you have the chance of winning the total amount in the pot. The winner is the player with the best hand who has matched any bet put in to the pot once all the community cards have been dealt.

Tournament poker is where each player brings the same amount of cash into the game. Play continues until all the players are left with no chips but one - that player takes all the money.
